Yodel wins Retail and eCommerce Innovator of the Year at the techies 2019
Yodel IT team scoops third national award this year
UK independent parcel carrier Yodel is celebrating the latest addition to its trophy cabinet after claiming the title of Retail and eCommerce Innovator of the Year at the techies 2019. The techies celebrate innovation across all industry sectors in the UK, rewarding the best and brightest technology professionals.

The award was won for creating Xperience, Yodel’s service that provides customers with a seamless, retailer-branded journey from point of order through to delivery. Xperience uses an application program interface (API) so that order information, delivery and returns tracking and even Yodel’s customer feedback survey appear on the retailer’s website, allowing the retailer to become the single point of contact.
Adam Gerrard, chief digital officer at Yodel, commented: “We wanted to make the process of buying online as simple as possible. Often customers experience frustration as they are passed back and forth between the retailer and the carrier and encounter a period of ‘information blackout’ between the two systems. With Yodel Xperience the retailer can provide customers with a seamless experience and enjoy complete brand control from the point of order through to delivery, returns and beyond.
“This award is great recognition of the hard work of our innovation and IT teams. We’ve been investing heavily in our people and systems, and we are delighted to take home this accolade as we continue to innovate to improve the customer experience.”
This is the third award that has been won by Yodel’s IT team and the second award for the Xperience service this year. The team also won the Best Continuous Deployment Project award at the Computing DevOps Excellence Awards in March, one of two top prizes taken home by Yodel that night. The other award was for Best DevOps Team. The DevOps team at Yodel has been instrumental in transforming the business’ assets, including Yodel’s Inflight service, which allows customers to redirect or change the date of their delivery after an order has been placed.
The techies were held at the Sway Bar in London on Thursday 9th May and were judged by a panel including Scott Carey, the editor of Computerworld UK, and Matt Egan, the editorial director of IDG UK and US.
