Flower deliveries blooming for Yodel in the run up to Valentine's Day

75,000 bunches of flowers expected to be delivered to loved-up Britons.

With Brits up and down the country tightening their purse strings, it would seem that romance is still alive and well, as Yodel, the UK's largest parcel delivery company, prepares to handle double the normal volume of flowers in the days before 14th February.

Yodel is expecting to deliver over 75,000 bouquets of Valentine's flowers, helping to spread romance across the country. The figures suggest that despite the downturn, Brits are still keen to impress their other halves by splashing the cash on romantic gestures.

Yodel, which has several well known floristry clients, including the UK's largest independent internet flower delivery service, Serenataflowers.com, has special capability to handle delicate items such as bouquets, which cannot go through the usual parcel sorting process. A record proportion of bouquets will be ordered through the internet this year, sparking the delivery boom.

And sweethearts are not just saying it with flowers, as chocolate sales continue to defy the difficult economic times. Yodel also expects to deliver nearly 50% more boxes of chocolates than a normal week.

One Mr. Valentine, a Mr. Love, Mr. Darling, four Harts and two Angells will be among Yodel's workforce, ensuring Valentines across the country receive their romantic presents.

Yodel CEO, Jonathan Smith commented on the expected delivery volumes: "The difficult economic times don't seem to be dampening our romantic nature.  Many of our clients expect to ship more flowers and chocolates than ever this year, and our drivers will be playing Cupid to thousands of Valentines."

Peter Ahl, Founder and CEO of SerenataFlowers.com, said: "Love isn't entirely blind. Even the most smitten Valentine can see that ordering bouquets through the internet saves them both money and time."
